چکیده

UNLABELLED The U wave is still an electrocardiographic deflection of enigmatic origin. Numerous hypotheses on its origin have been formulated, but to date none has been conclusively proven. Recently, a report described the first case of bifid (or notched) U waves. Until then this phenomenon has only been described in the T wave. This is the first report of double U waves-two separate deflections, ascribed to an accessory papillary muscle. HYPOTHESIS The presence of a double U wave will be associated with an accessory papillary muscle (s). MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a retrospective analysis of 4729 patient files of patients who were evaluated at a cardiology practice. The 12-lead surface electrocardiogram was evaluated for the possible presence of a double U wave. In cases where a double U wave was found, the transthoracic echocardiogram was then scrutinized for the presence of an accessory papillary muscle. RESULTS A total of 3 cases of a double U wave were found. In every case an accessory papillary muscle was clearly seen on the transthoracic echocardiogram. CONCLUSION A double U wave is a new variant of an old electrocardiographic deflection of enigmatic origin. This variant may be associated with an accessory papillary muscle.

Evaluation of Electrocardiogram Changes in Patients with Slow Coronary Flow

Background: Slow coronary flow (SCF) is defined as a condition in which in spite of no evidence of coronary occlusion or stenosis in angiography, there is delayed pacification of the vessels after the injection of a contrast agent. There are several studies about electrocardiogram (ECG) changes in these patients, but changes like OLD MI, RBBB, LBBB, LVH and ST-T wave have not b...

T-wave inversion in the aVL lead is associated with severity of stenosis in the LAD artery

Background & Aims: The clinical value of T wave inversion (TWI) in the lead aVL in diagnosing coronary artery disease (CAD) remains unclear. Hence, we aim to evaluate the association between TWI in the aVL lead and the severity and location of coronary artery stenosis in elective coronary angiography. Material and Method: Electrocardiograms (ECGs) of 167 consecutive patients undergoing electiv...

Prognostic significance of negative U waves in the electrocardiogram in hypertension.

NEGATIVE U waves are usually preceded by negative T waves. It also seems that only secondarily inverted T waves are followed by inverted U waves. It was found by us, however, that the U wave was inverted in less than one half of the electrocardiograms that showed presumably secondary inversion of the T wave. The presence of an upright U wave in leads where the T wave was already inverted could ...

Electrocardiogram Assessment in Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) Following Intranasal Administration of Anesthetics

Objective- The objective of the present study was to define electrocardiographic data following intranasal administration of diazepam, midazolam and xylazine with or without Ketamine in Chough. Design- To determine the heart effects of anesthetics in intranasal administration, an experimental in vivo study was employed. Animals- Ten healthy Choughs were examined in the current study...

Determination the Normal Parameters (amplitude and duration) of Electrocardiogram Waves in River Buffaloes (Bubalus Bubalis) of Khuzestan

An easy way to evaluate the cardiovascular system is recording the cardiac electrical activities. Reviewing the available literatures suggests that buffalos ECG compared to other large animals have been neglected and the carried out studies in this field are too limited. Using this method for the diagnosis of cardiac disorders needs the standardization, not only among animal species but also am...
